Xbox VR won’t be shown at E3 this year, Alex Kipman says

Mixed reality is a big talking point for Microsoft as it continues to develop augmented and virtual reality for Windows PC. However, when it comes to Xbox, the tech giant’s console will have to wait just a bit longer.

Even though the next generation gaming console is planned to have 4K resolution and touted to be ‘the most powerful console built’ so far,Polygon reportsthat the presentation at E3 won’t be showing off mixed reality. Instead, Microsoft’s plans to focus more on the Scorpio’s other features rather than its virtual reality capabilities.

Alex Kipman from Microsoft stated:

“Our primary focus is making our mixed reality experiences a success on Windows 10 PCs. We believe that right now a Windows PC is the best platform for mixed reality as its open ecosystem and enormous installed base offer the best opportunity for developers, and Windows offers the most choices for consumers.”

“Windows has been the birthplace of a variety of technologies, and we believe this will hold for mixed reality too. Given the efforts we have underway on Windows for mixed reality, and our belief that console VR should be wireless, right now we are focused on developing mixed reality experiences for the PC, not on the console.”

So far, it sounds like mixed reality is still on track with its promise of seeingVR on console in 2018. For now, we’ll have to be patient and just bask in the glory that Project Scorpio has to offer – sans mixed reality.
