What you need to know
Windows Subsystem for Android onWindows 11improvements are shipping today to all Windows Insiders. Everything from H.264 video decoding to better mail integration is on the docket.
You can identify the update as version 2203.40000.1.0 in theMicrosoft Store. It contains H.264 video hardware decoding capabilities, meaning you’ll (hopefully) get an improved high-definition video playback experience via the benefit of hardware-accelerated decoding.
Network changes are also part of this latest update, though those should be a background adjustment that doesn’t overtly affect your experience. Mobile apps and Windows email clients will now have better integration, inputs will be improved to support better scrolling in Kindle apps and the Amazon Appstore, and 4X MSAA (Multisample anti-aliasing) won’t be force-enabled. While MSAA can be helpful in certain contexts since it’s an anti-aliasing solution that smooths jagged edges in games, it comes with performance tradeoffs that aren’t always optimal. The ability to disable 4X MSAA could help certain setups achieve a better experience.
Choppy video playback and connected-standby-related app restarts are two known issues that remain on Microsoft’s radar. As always, Microsoft asks for your feedback should you encounter any issues with the Windows Subsystem for Android. General feedback is also welcome.
