As Microsoft begins to pin part of its app platform on developers investing in Progressive Webs Apps, Twitter is providing the company with a reassuring example ofhow beneficial PWA development can befor both businesses and users.
Twitter introduced its multi-user account support setting to iOS and Android a few months back but the development time between its dedicated app and PWA engineering continues to shrink as the company is now rolling that setting out to its PWA offering on Windows 10.
In true PWA fashion, multi-user support is being applied on the backend of the app and will be pushed to all PWA supported platforms such as Twitter Lite, mobile.twitter.com, the Microsoft Store and Chrome Web Store as an extension.
The implementation may leave some questioning the discoverability of the new setting but it’s available nonetheless in the under the original account icon in the top right corner of the app. Once the account icon is selected, a new “+” icon should be visible to the top left allowing users to then add an additional account to the same app and allow for easy switching between the two.
While Twitter represents a resource heavy company that can apply broad sweeping changes to the various platforms its product is available to, it’s PWA offering on the web and Windows 10 continues to highlight why Google and Microsoft are so keen to the idea of PWA’s being the future of experiences. The write-once dream is within grasps if developers should choose to take it and companies such as Google and Microsoft continue to build up platforms that put those experiences at the center.
