Welcome back to our Windows 10 news recap. We are continuing the trend of our weekly “Windows 10 news recap” series where we go over the top stories of the past week in the world of Microsoft’s flagship operating system.
SUSE brings 2 of its Linux distros to the Windows Store for Windows 10 Insiders
Microsoft stated at its Build 2017 conference that it would be bringing Linux distributions to the Windows Store, such as Ubuntu and Fedora. Now,SUSE has added 2 of its Linux distros to the Windows Store:
BetaArchive accidentally leaks Windows 10 source code for parts of Windows 10’s driver stack
In what appears to be an accidental leak,BetaArchive leaked a small part of source code for part of Windows 10’s driver stack, that is normally only given to OEMs and partners of Microsoft, allowing them to create drivers for the operating system. The files have since been deleted, and it isn’t thought that there will be many (if any) security exploits as a result.
Microsoft provided the following statement on the issue:
Our review confirms that these files are actually a portion of the source code from the Shared Source Initiative and is used by OEMs and partners.
Malicious Word macros can run on “secure” Windows 10 S, tests show
Despite Windows 10 S being touted as secure, due to its walled-garden nature, it has been found that the inevitableWord macros can still run ransom on the operating system, potentially leaving at least one security hole.
Windows 10 Wall Street Journal app to close next week
TheWall Street Journal is apparently ending its Windows 10 appin the coming days, on June 30th. Users are receiving notifications in the app that signals its closure.
