The anticipated launch of Microsoft’sSurface phonehas left many guessing exactly what the device may look like or how it will function. One new patent may give clues to how the new camera included in the smart device will function.
Microsoft has filed a patent for a 3D Camera function for smartphone or tablet. This has lead many to speculate that the new phone, and possibly the company’s upcoming 2-in-1 device will include 3D capable camera features.
Specifically the patent relates to 3D depth and the ability to interpret in-airhand gesturesfor operating the device or using the onscreen menu options. In addition there will be the ability to use one’s finger or other object to draw on a surface laid out in front of the camera.
Microsoft has been filing patents as it prepares its new mystery phone and the industry is watching. This recent filing for 3D camera capabilities is a smart move in the race to innovate. Competition will be stiff as Apple works on its newer iPhone 8 which is rumored to also include some 3D technology of its own, so staying ahead of the curve is going to be vital for Microsoft’s survival.
Arecent conceptmock-up from Amir Estefad and Mohammad Reza Alidoost UI/ UX designers, predicts the Surface phone will have many of the features that the Microsoft community of users have been requesting from a larger wrap-around screen to more efficient use of space on the home screen.
Only time will tell how innovative the Surface phone will be. If any of the predictions are true, it’s sure to bring a much needed new thrill to the market once it’s released. Will you be buying? What features are you hoping get included? Tell us in the comments below.
