Survey confirms Windows updates trigger bugs for 50% of users

The latest survey performed by advocacy siteWhichreveals that 50% of consumers are faced withproblems after major Windows updates, and some of them have increased severity. In the past years, more and more users have been complaining that theWindows Insider programis not strong enough to detect and fixbugsand this last research only comes to highlight this issue even more.

Which’s survey in numbers

The study included 1,000 Which members and it showed that 21% of these users were faced withsoftware compatibility issuesand these includedapps which would not launchanymore after theupdates. Moreover, 16% of the users were affected by hardware issues such asbroken peripheralsafter a significantupdate, and some systems even stopped booting right, while other PCs’ performance decreased.

Broken PCs/systems had to be fixed by technicians and users had to pay about $90.

Microsoft should cover the costs

The company noted that users should not be the ones supporting these costs and Microsoft should send them a compensation since it’s their fault such things can happen.

According to Which’s data, over the past three years, users have been complaining more aboutWindows 10than any other OS, both mobile and desktop. The expert noted that Redmond should be upfront about the risks posed by a specific update so that users could opt out of it if they choose so.

Security updates should be offered separately

Which also said that this might cause security issues, so they propose that Microsoft offers these separately and not optional as the others.

They also said that all they want is to make sure that their customers get the best support and thebest Windows update experienceand that’s why they’ll continue to review customer inquiries and issues to make sure that customers receive the best resolutions.
