Steam ends support for Windows XP and Vista in 2019

Windows XPandWindows Vistausers just got some bad news. Valve revealed that their Steam gaming platform would end support for these OSs at the beginning of 2019, on January 1st to be more precise. It seems that the motivation for this decision has to do with a change made in Google Chrome which terminated support for older systems.

Steamwill require users to run the latest Windows security and feature updates which are not available forWindows XPandWindows Vista.

WindowsXPandWindows Vistausers will still be able to purchase and play games viaSteamfor the rest of this year, but the New Year’s Eve will bring the death of support for these operating systems. Another sad news is that even if they can play games and buy new ones viaSteamby the end of 2018, users will not be able to access any new features that are launched.

Steam Client will not run on the older Windows versions

Steam announced that they would end support forWindows VistaandXPafter theSteamClient stops running on these OSs. They also said that in order to continue buying games and products fromSteamand running them, you would have to update to a more recent version of Windows.

Valve says that new features such asSteamChat are not available anymore for users of these older versions of Windows and they basically encourage everyone to update their systems.
