What you need to know
The rumored Resident Evil 4 remake is reportedly taking a darker, spookier tone than the original game. A report fromFanbyteindicates that the game is not meant to be a direct one-to-one remake of Resident Evil 4, with plenty of new ideas being explored and changes being implemented.
Some of these changes come in the form of altering iconic moments in the game, such as having the village attack sequence now take place at night. Capcom is also exploring the stories of other characters in the game such as Ada, looking into reworking the Assignment: Ada and Separate Ways mini-campaigns from the GameCube and PlayStation 2 versions of the game, respectively.
Fanbyte’s report also corroborates prior information indicating the game wasoriginally being developed by M-Two, the studio that worked onResident Evil 3remake. The team reportedly even asked original creator Shinji Mikami to work on the game, though he declined, staying in his role as head of Tango Gameworks, which is currently working onGhostwire: Tokyo. Development has been moved to an internal division of Capcom, though M-Two’s work was kept and that team is still assisting with the project.
Capcom is also reportedly planning to announce the Resident Evil 4 remake sometime early on into 2022, though game development remains difficult at the best of times and these plans could change. Capcom is also currently working on DLC forResident Evil Village, though it’s not yet clear what this additional content will be composed of.
