When Call of Duty: Warzone first launched in 2020, the free-to-play battle royale featured just two modes for players. Back then, your squad suited up and dropped into Verdansk in either Battle Royale or Plunder. Two years later, Verdansk has been replaced with the new map, Caldera, and there are now more than 20 different game modes that Raven Software shuffles through on a weekly basis.

Players, however, were frustrated with the seemingly erratic playlist changes. Tournament organizers also expressed frustration with a lack of transparency around playlist availability, making it difficult to plan events. One week playlists would feature squads of three, and then abruptly change, and only playlists for squads of four would be available. Raven did previously address the issue and begin announcing planned playlist updates in advance in recent months. Additionally, it did state in a community post that it would like to consider more consistent and stable squad sizes in future playlist rotations to further address these concerns.

Raven Software’s statement revealed that there are currently 100,000,000 Warzone Pacific players, and that player motivation is a driving force in deciding which playlists most frequently appear in rotations. The studio is striving for a balance between providing players with modes that they’re most likely to frequent based on collected data, while also allowing the team to have creative freedom for new modes.

AsCall of Duty: Warzone Pacificwinds down with the end of Season 1, players can expect a “best-of-season” outro playlist with more consistent squad sizes, as well as a bonus four-day event called Buy Backs Royale. While players say goodbye to Season 1, Raven Software plans to consider player feedback and plan for the new modes that players can look forward to in Season 2.Season 2 for Warzone Pacificis expected to go live on Feb. 14.
