New Grand Theft Auto in development, Rockstar Games confirms

Rockstar Games officially confirms it is working on a new Grand Theft Auto game. While details are currently scarce, the developer has put rumors to rest, with confirmation that a new entry in the long-running franchise is on the way.

“Many of you have been asking about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series,” Rockstar Games shared onTwitter. “With every new project, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we’ve previously delivered. We’re pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the series is underway.”

There’s no title or release date at the moment, but it’s pretty likely that it’ll be calledGrand Theft Auto 6. Reports currently indicate that the game might launch in 2024 or 2025, but we’ll have to wait for further confirmation.

The news comes alongside a release date and a bevy of detailed improvements forGrand Theft Auto 5 on Xbox Series X, S and PS5. The newly enhanced version of Grand Theft Auto 5 has 4K and 60 FPS options on current-generation consoles, alongside the ability to port save date over.

Grand Theft Auto is one of the most lucrative series in gaming, withGrand Theft Auto 5 selling over 155 million copiesso far, in addition to microtransation revenue garnered through GTA Online.

Rockstar Games recently launched another remaster, GTA Definitive Edition, which bundled together three older titles in the franchise: GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas. The remaster was poorly received due to numerous bugs, glitches, poor textures and other issues.
