MultiVersus is WB Games' free-to-play Smash Bros competitor

What you need to know

The rumors and leaks were true. WB Games announced MultiVersus on Thursday, a free-to-play fighting game. MultiVersus is taking obvious inspiration from Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. franchise, with a roster of Warner Bros. characters like Arya Stark, Batman, Bugs Bunny, Wonder Woman and more. You can check out the reveal video below, with some input from the developers at Player First Games.

The developers want everyone playing together with their friends, with full cross-play support and dedicated netcode rollback. There’s options for one-vs-one duels, four-player free for alls, or you can squad up in a two-vs-two battle. MultiVersus is coming toXbox Series X,Xbox Series S, Xbox One, PC,PS5and PS4.

The game features some iconic voice actors for each of these characters, with Kevin Conroy returning to voice Batman and Matthew Lillard bringing back his voice for Shaggy. If you’re interested in trying the game out a little early, you canregisterfor a chance to be selected for playtests in the coming months.

While there’s no exact release date, MultiVersus is currently slated to launch at some point in 2022, with the developers promising regular updates. Several other titles from WB Games are currently scheduled to arrive in 2022, with WB Montreal’sGotham Knights, Rocksteady Games’Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leagueand Avalanche Software’sHogwarts Legacyall on the way right now.
