What you need to know
As time passes, the internet becomes increasingly prevalent and influential in our lives. This is especially true for young people and children, who are being raised in an “internet-first” world. Since 2004, Safer Internet Day has worked to share the significance of internet safety education, and returns again on Feb. 8, 2022. On Monday, Mojang Studios and Microsoft announced they’re joining in this year’s Safer Internet Day with a brand-new educational adventure world for Minecraft.
CyberSafe: Home Sweet Hmm both pays homage toMinecraftvillagers' infamous “hmm” sound and seeks to remind players of the perpetual importance of pausing before acting when online. The adventure is aimed at children between the ages of 7 and 12, and will task them with overcoming four challenges. Each challenge tackles a different topic related to staying safe and aware while perusing the internet. CyberSafe: Home Sweet Hmm is the perfect tool for educators and parents alike to teach their students or children about these subjects.
By the end of the adventure, children should be better equipped to protect their personal information, recognize and handle phishing attempts and scams more easily, and, most importantly, realize the importance of conversing with trusted adults on being safe online while still having fun. All of this and more is a part ofSafer Internet Day, of which this adventure is only a small part.
