Microsoft announced an OS custom built forIoT securityand an important cloud security service that will guard every device.Azure Sphereis a new security platform that enables highly secured and connected MCU devices. These are an innovative class of devices connected to the web, and they rely on a small chip called microcontroller unit aka MCU. These include industrial connected equipment,connected appliances, toys and more. Microsoft’s security platform is set toenhance the security of these IoT devices.

Microsoft teams up with more companies

Microsoft is working with its partners to bring Azure Sphere based chipsets, and it’s estimated that a chipset will not be priced above $10. The very first ship will make its debut under the nameMediaTek MT3620, and it’s scheduled to hit the market later this year. Azure Sphere is currently in private preview, and Microsoft is working hard with its partners to build products that will be powered by it. Azure Sphere consists of three elements.

Azure Sphere MCUs

MCUs mix real-time and application processors with built-in Microsoft security tech and connectivity. The chips include custom silicon security tech from Microsoft to provide the maximum level of security.

Azure Sphere OS

The operating system combines the security features flaunted by Windows, a security monitor, and a custom Linux kernel to high-security software environment and platform for brand new IoT experiences.

Azure Sphere Security Service

This is a cloud service and a key element that will guard every device. It will feature device-to-device and device-to-cloud communication via certificate-based authentication. It’s also set to detect emerging threats across the whole Azure Sphere ecosystem via online failure reporting and renewing security all the time via software updates.
