Microsoft Teams gets support for Chrome notifications

Following on the heels of news thatMicrosoft’s Teams platform is edging out Slack in the enterprisesector, the company can also tip its hat to a new consumer feature to use as a selling point.

Some time last week Microsoft pulled the lever on a Chrome web notification support for Teams allowing users who prefer to keep their systems clean of extraneous .exe program cruft or just prefer to operate mainly in the browser, to now see their @’s and replies and alerts on the desktop or the Action Center.

Microsoft’s more flexible approach to Windows 10 and browser interopability is developing into a rather important story as the company plans to implement many of the same features of Chrome into its own default browser. With teams becoming a truly cross platform with native experiences via the browser, it’ll be interesting to see what other productivity applications follow.

Perhaps, more importantly, Microsoft Teams now supporting Chrome notifications means the service aslo acts as a native client on Chrome OS enabling the company to get a tiny foothold as the communication tool for the highly coveted edcuation sector.
