Microsoft reportedly opening two new data centers in Germany

Accordingto a report from Reuters, Microsoft is opening two new data centers in Germany. Aimed at allowing Microsoft customers in the region to keep their data in Germany, the total cost of the centers comes up to $120 million USD.

Previously, the Redmond giant offered cloud services in the region via a partnership with Deutsche Telekom and also other European data centers. Microsoft did not specifically comment on the new German data centers but pointed to those partnerships, telling Reuters the company is happy for offering both German and international cloud services.

“Many customers with particularly sensitive needs, for example in the public sector, prefer our German cloud offering. We give customers the choice” said the spokesperson.

Germany is just the latest country to get new datacenters and Microsoft has rapidly been expanding its presence in regions across the globe. Recently, the companyannounced it was planningon tripling its Azure presence in China in the next six months.
