Microsoft recently rolled outWindows 10 build 15002for PC, adding a series of interesting new features to the OS. It appears that the company just pushed a new Windows 10 Mobile build today, although no official confirmation is available yet.
The latest Windows 10 Mobile update is called “Localization for English” and installs build10.0.14998.1000on Insider phones. Apart from that,Windows 10 Mobile build 14998doesn’t seem to bring any new features or significant improvements.
Windows 10 Mobile build 14998 is shrouded in mystery
The fact that Microsoft hasn’t yet published any post on its Windows Insider blog about this update suggests that somebody accidentally pushed it out, and the luckyWindows 10 Mobileusers who first spotted the build about a couple of hours ago managed to install the update.
However, if you search for updates now, build 14998 doesn’t show up anymore. This could mean that Microsoft’s Insider Team realized they made a mistake and pulled it.
This is likely as Microsoft labelled build 14998 an update. Moreover, not all Insiders were able to install this mysterious build on their phones, which suggests that it still needed polish.
This mysterious “Localization for English” update could actually be a solution Microsoft is testing to fix the languages and speech packs bugs listed as known issues onbuild 14977:
Please avoid attempting to install new languages, keyboards, and speech packs on your phone. There is a chance these downloads may get stuck and not finish downloading. If you have existing languages, keyboards, and speech packs installed – they will carry over when you update to new builds. You can use Windows Device Recovery Tool to go back to Windows Phone 8.1 or Windows 10 Mobile, install any languages, keyboards, and speech packs you need and then update to the latest build in the Fast ring as a workaround.
If you’ve installed build 14988 on your Windows 10 phone, use the comment section below to tell us more about your experience.
