Microsoft Identity Manager (MIM) 2016 Service Pack 1is now generally available. MIM is a way for Microsoft customers to manage and synchronize their identities between directories, databases, and applications on-premises, in the cloud using Azure or a combination of both. MIM also allows users to manage their administrator security and who they give access to their content. If you are unfamiliar, here’s a video of what MIM can do for its customers.

The MIM 2016 Service Pack 1 includes all of the previously released improvements that were released since MIM 2016’s release in August 2015. Senior program manager of the Microsoft Identity team, Steve Lieberman, gives a quick run-down of MIM 2016 Service Pack 1.

“This release includes all previously released hotfixes for Microsoft Identity Manager 2016 since its release in August 2015, customer requested features like cross-browser support, new product platforms and easier deployment options of the Privileged Access Management components. Microsoft Identity Manager (MIM) 2016 Service Pack 1 extends MIM’s cross-browser compatibility, including Chrome, Firefox, and even Safari on Mac and iOS devices, to the MIM Portal for self-service group management and approvals.

In addition, customers may can leverage an Office 365 mailbox for MIM self-service group requests, approvals, and email notifications. This helps customers that have invested in a hybrid infrastructure of having MIM on-premises and Office 365 reduce the need for on-premises Exchange servers. To make it easier for customers to deploy a secure on-premises identity infrastructure, we have added menu driven PowerShell scripts to automate the configuration and deployment of MIM in a Privileged Access Management environment, also known as a bastion forest.”

MIM 2016 Service Pack 1 also includes updates for use with SQL 2016, Exchange 2016, Outlook 2016, and SharePoint 2016. Microsoft Identity Manager 2016 Service Pack 1 is available for download via theMicrosoft Volume Licensing Service Centerwebsite, as well as fromMSDN subscription downloads(if you have an MSDN subscription). There is also anMIM 6-month trial softwareavailable, and you cancheck out the MIM 2016 technical documentation. For any comments or suggestions, you can reach theMIM team directly via email.
