Microsoftyesterday announcedthe next steps in their longtime goal of accelerating healthcare innovation through artificial intelligence and cloud computing, The company has hired two prominent figures to a new Microsoft Healthcare team, with the ultimate goal of helping drive strategic partnerships and driving Microsoft’s strategy for healthcare and life sciences.
Joining the Microsoft Healthcare team are two industry veterans—Jim Weinstein, and Joshua Mandel. Weinstein will take on a Vice President role and is being dubbed the Head of Innovation and Health Equity. Mandel, meanwhile, is taking on a Cheif Architect role and will be responsible for laying the groundwork for an open cloud architecture for the entire health ecosystem.
In his new role at Microsoft Healthcare, Jim Weinstein will be responsible for working with healthcare organizations and ensuring that they take care as they move to the cloud. He will also build the strategic vision of Microsoft Healthcare and provide leadership, supporting Peter Lee, the Corporate Vice President of Microsoft Healthcare.
Jim Weinstein is best known for once being the CEO of Dartmouth-Hitchcock and the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health System. He also is known as the co-founder and inaugural executive director of the national High Value Healthcare Collaborative, which is a home for the nation’s tops healthcare systems to share data, and create better outcomes.
In his most recent role, Joshua Mandel worked on the health IT ecosystem at Verily. He too has extensive knowledge of healthcare and is a member of the research faculty at the Boston Children’s Hospital Computational Health Informatics Program.
