Microsoft made a Manhattan foray into the brick and mortar store world when they opened their flagship store in NYC back in 2015, but the company might not be done expanding its presence in the Big Apple just yet. Noted byThe Real Deal, the firm could possibly be considering opening a second store location in SoHo NYC, just a short 6.5 miles from their first retail store on 5th Ave (via MSPoweruser.)
According to the report, Microsoft is looking into leasing a property at 300 Lafayette Street. Currently, this space in SoHo is being developed by Related Companies and LargaVista Companies. Negotiations are apparently in the early stages, but the building is designed includes both 50,000-square-feet of office space and 30,000-square-feet of retail space.
It’s not 100% clear if this property will be a new store or just office space, but Microsoft’s interest does make some sense. Apple already has ten retail locations across three boroughs in NYC and a second store location in SoHo could help Microsoft appeal to more consumers, and the tourists who visit the popular NYC neighborhood.
