Word is filtering out that Microsoft has indeed confirmed a hardware event, widely expected to introduce new Surface devices, for May 2nd.

Microsoft has posted the detailsof a live stream under the title “May Event,” with a #MicrosoftEDU hashtag, and a promise of a link to a livestream, beginning at 9:30am ET / 6:30am PT on May 2nd:

Why the event is tagged this way, and whether or not it has to do with the possibility of a new “Windows Cloud” clamshell device, remains to be seen, but we’ll bring you all the details as they become available.

A bit of an update: The event is scheduled for a venue in New York City, and we’ll be there to bring you all the latest, stay tuned!
