What you need to know
Some peoplewrite books. Others read them. Whichever side of the fence you land on, the important thing is that you’re keeping the medium alive. And you know who else is doing that? Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.
Over atFast Company, he gave an update on five books he read this year. They were Philosopher of the Heart: The Restless Life of Søren Kierkegaard by Clare Carlisle, Utopia or Oblivion: The Prospects for Humanity by R. Buckminster Fuller, The Alignment Problem: Machine Learning and Human Values by Brian Christian, The Difference: How the Power of Diversity Creates Better Groups, Firms, Schools, and Societies by Scott E. Page, and Power of Creative Destruction by Philippe Aghion, Celine Antonin, and Simon Bunel.
The topics of the books range from the values of diversity to lattice shell structures, so head on over to the full writeup to find out why Nadella read each of the aforementioned titles. What’s important is that the books have all inspired him and, in some way, helped shape his leadership style at Microsoft. Many cite him as an example of a successful leader, so the books may be of value to those who want to glean the broad strokes of his style.
On the flip side of that same coin, there is no writeup on the five books fellow tech CEO Bobby Kotick used to help informhis leadership strategy. If such a book list arises, we’ll be sure to update this post.
