Microsoft Azure achieves US Department of Defense Level 5 provisional authorization

Microsoft todayhas announcedthat Azure has achieved a US Department of Defense Level 5 provisional authorization. According to the company, this “allows DoD mission owners and officials the ability to plan, assess, and authorize workloads for Impact Level 5 controlled unclassified information.”

Today’s achievement of US Department of Defense Level 5 provisional authorization adds to what is already a large list of Azure Government cloud authorizations and assessments which demonstrate adherence to U.S. federal, DoD, and state and local standards. In fact, Microsoft has even established two physically isolated and geographically separated Azure Government regions exclusively for the Department of Defense. These regions are designed to support Impact Level 5 workloads with stringent DoD security requirements.

Microsoft is no stranger to the US Government,and as recently as last month, the company scored a $927 million support contract with the US Defense department. As always, please do let us know what you think of the latest Azure news by dropping us a comment below!
