343 Industries' Head of Design, Jerry Hook, hasannouncedthat a series of large changes are coming to the in-game microtransactions shop that allows players to purchase cosmetics for theirHalo Infinite multiplayerSpartan, weapons, and vehicles. Specifically, these changes are coming on Jan. 18, 2022 — the same day that theHalo Infinite Cyber Showdownevent is kicking off.
Based on Hook’s description, the goal of these changes is to reduce the price of most items while also offering more value and allowing players to buy previously bundle-exclusive items individually. “We are focused on reducing pricing across the board, providing stronger values in our bundles, starting to put individual items outside of bundles, and more,” said Hook. “We will be trying new things throughout the rest of the season (Halo Infinite Season 1) so that we can continue to learn and improve for the future.”
Starting Tuesday, the Shop experience will vary week-to-week. One of the biggest reasons that many have feltHalo Infinite’s customization options are unacceptably shallowis because items in its microtransactions shop have generally been both expensive and lackluster, so it’s great to see 343 Industries address the problem directly. It will be interesting to see how the studio continues to improve the store moving forward, and hopefully the developers will reach a point where the community is satisfied with the state of it.
Halo Infinite’s multiplayer is free to play and is available on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One consoles, and Windows PCs. It’s a ton of fun, and paired with theHalo Infinite campaign, it’s easily one of thebest Xbox gamesavailable right now.
Halo Infinite’s multiplayer has launched a few weeks early, compiling its classic arena multiplayer modes, expanded 24-player Big Team Battle, and more into one free-to-play package.
