Shinji Mikami is the legendary founder of Tango Gameworks, recently acquired by Microsoft as part of the ZeniMax acquisition. Mikami-san is responsible for the rise of Resident Evil, among various other games. He left Capcom over a decade ago to found Tango as a grassroots studio to hunt new game dev talent, and would later get picked up by ZeniMax and Bethesda, and now Microsoft.

Tango Gameworks is buildingGhostwire: Tokyo, which is a first-person horror thriller where players explore the Japanese city, besieged by spirits and demons. Ghostwire: Tokyo is launching exclusively on PlayStation and PC initially, and will likely come to Xbox once the year-long exclusivity period ends.

What’s next for Tango Gameworks after Ghostwire: Tokyo, though? Something for Xbox, most likely, according to this new interview withVG247. While discussing Ghostwire’s exclusivity, Shinji Mikami teased that they’ll “most likely have something for Xbox” in the future.

In the piece, Kenji Kimura who is leading Ghostwire: Tokyo’s development said that little has changed at Tango since being acquired by Microsoft. “Working with Xbox has been really smooth […] although that part has been mostly handled by Mikami. Having Mikami at the top of Tango to make decisions that are sometimes difficult just makes things really smooth.” Kimura also emphasized that the team is already receiving support from Microsoft.

When asked about the future ofThe Evil Within, Shinji Mikami opted for a surfing metaphor, “Survival horror is at the low end of the wave right now, so a surfer wouldn’t go out there. It’s probably just best to wait for the bigger wave, until the time when there is a big enough survival horror game that’s much more well accepted.” Indeed, Tango is alreadyworking on a new titleled by The Evil Within 2 director John Johanas, but Mikami’s comments seem to indicate that it won’t be The Evil Within-related, while not ruling it out completely.

Shinji Mikami is once again serving as an executive producer for that title, but stated that he’d like to direct at least one more game in the future as well. Could that be The Evil Within 3? Only time will tell.

If you haven’t yet played The Evil Within, both entries in the franchise are essential survival horror, and are quite easily two of thebest horror games on Xbox. And hey, they’re also on Xbox Game Pass for good measure.
