Huawei recently faced a major set back due to the latest US-imposed ban. Microsoftstopped selling Windows licences to Huawei. The Chinese telecom company is now looking for alternative ways to keep its devices alive.

Huawei’s very own OS code namedHongmengrecently came under the spotlight. Now the company made a major move, as it registered the trademark for the much-awaitedOS.

The telecom giant submitted the trademark application on August 24, 2018. The trademark will remain valid from May 14, 2019 to May 13, 2029.

The head of Huawei’s consumer business branch, Richard Yu Chengdong confirmed that theoperating systemmay be available in Spring next year.

Huawei first announced HongmengOSback in 2012. It looks like the company is now speeding up the development process. This decision was made after the US banned thesale of American hardware and software to Huawei.

Hongmeng coming to multiple platforms

The company registered the application under differentcategories such as Computer OperatingProgram,Operating SystemProgram, and Computer OperatingSoftware.

Richard Yu shared Huawei’s plans to use the newOSfor various platforms such as smartphones, cars, tablets, TVs, computers and wearable devices.

The company further revealed the upcomingOSwould offer compatibility with Web apps andAndroid apps.

The telecom giant acknowledged some challenges that may come in the way of theOS. Huawei says that it is easy to develop anoperating systembut building an ecosystem for Hongmeng is a challenging task.

Huawei confirmed it would launch two versions of theOS. The first one will target the global market and the second will be available to the domestic market. We will have to wait for a few more months to get some additional details from the company.
